Stedelijke Basisschool Musica

The Musica has 2 pre-primary schools ( 2.5 - 5 years) and one primary school ( 6-12 years) in the historical centre of the city of Antwerp. Antwerp has 500 000 habitants. The port of Antwerp is an inportant European harbour and that's the reason why Antwerp is very attractive for immigrants and rich people. Our school has a music project ( cfr the name of the school "Musica"): the children sing, dance, play instruments and have their own class orchestra at the end of the primary school. The pupils have different social backgrounds. We have illegal children, children from lower, middle and high class that live and work together in the school. The old schoolbuildings were renovated whith a lot of attention to lower the energy bill. Also the children learn step by step how they can make an effort to help the climate. We look forward to see schools in other parts of Europe to get ideas how you can make your school energy friendly and how you can motivate and learn the children to lower their ecological footprint. We also look forward to see how you can make your playground ecological attractive for the children. Together with our sister pre-school in Antwerp we will have the extra responsibility of planning and hosting one of the transnational meetings. Besides this we have the responsibility of working with our children under the themes and present our activities.

Stedelijke Kleuterschool De Kameleon

De Kameleon is located in a suburb of Antwerp, called "Het Kiel". Mainly migrants and disavantaged families live in this district.. Our school is a real neighbourhood school. Our pupils are therefore 95 % migrants and we have 45 different nationalities. At the moment the city of Antwerp has a capacity problem. Also at our school there is far to little space for all children to be able to give them enough learning comfort. Because of renovation works our toddlers are housed in mobile units. Our participation in this project will give us new insights. The challenge is on the one hand a greater focus on the environment and a sustainable approach to life , but on the other hand, we have to work with disadvantage pupils with different needs. In this project we have the special responsibility, together with our sister pre-school in Antwerp of planning and hosting one of the transnational meetings. Besides this we have the responsibility of working with our children under the themes and present our activities.
